about me
hi i'm jess and i'm a codeaholic
you can find all sorts of things here

I'm a writer and an artist (29, any/all) but I also love things like sims (see: my sims blog at [personal profile] sinfulsimming (problematic content within, approach with caution)) and at some point I fell in love with code and coding, so I've been doing a bit of that as well.

On this journal you'll find my codes, me talking about writing and art, and who knows what else. I'm hoping to start writing properly again now I'm on medication for my ADHD, and I might post snippets and such on here again.

In the meantime, I'm learning code (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python and Java, the Java and JavaScript being mostly for Minecraft-related reasons) and will be posting some codey things on here too.

Thinking at length about participating in Spooktober this year over on World Anvil, so I've put this together to chart what I get done for it. Idk if I'll do it in order or dip in and out? We'll see. No matter what order or whatever I go with, I'll definitely be doing it for my original works, though, so keep an eye out!

I'll keep this page updated. ╰(*°▽°*)╯

I wrote a lot in 2020. All for MDZS/The Untamed. So I thought I’d list all my work here. Direct links will be in a reblog from the original, if you need them. Mostly Wangxian!

If you read them, heed the warnings please. They’re there for a reason.

Info:

In total I posted 169,042 words of MDZS fanfiction to AO3 this year (dang).

Aside from what I posted, I also wrote another 57,655 words of unposted MDZS fanfiction which I really should finish and post because oh my god I wrote 226,697 words of fanfiction this year.

I also wrote 164,613 words of non-fanfic writing this year, which brings my grand total to 391,310 words in 2020 (as of the 26th).

Holy crap.

Farm Hands Excerpt #1 | Dakota & Alex

"God,“ she says, "being poor is some kinda horse shit.”
"You said it.“ He goes back to his laptop and she moves things around in the sink for a moment, not actually washing any of the dishes, just staring out through the window.
"Maybe the police will catch him,” she says after a moment or two, looking around. “We gave them all the information they need to do it, right?”
Alex shrugs. “Depends how much they care,” he says. “Small town sheriff department like this… I dunno. It’s usually four people and a dog and I don’t think those guys have a dog so you’re just left with four guys.”
"They must be bored,“ she says, ”surely. I googled this town and there’s nothing happening here, the last murder was in nineteen sixty-two. Nineteen sixty-two!
"Why do you sound put off by that?” he says in amusement. She pulls a face at him.
"I’m not put off by it,“ she says with a huff, looking back at the dishes and going back to scrubbing them. "Okay, maybe I’m a little put off by it. It’s hard to find material to write from or make videos about when nothing is going on. It’s not conducive to the kind of work I do and the kind of inspiration I get. This town doesn’t even have a club, Alex! Not a gay club! It doesn’t have a straight club!”
"It’s a small town,“ Alex agrees with a nod, watching her over his laptop lid. "I doubt there’s a lot of non-straight people even in it.”
"There’s more than anyone realises,“ Dakota says firmly. "I bet most of them are just hiding in the closet afraid of their maiden aunts or whatever.”

Decisions! Moving forward.

I've decided to start posting some excerpts from my writing on here, as well as Tumblr. I'm working on two main WIPs at the moment, and here they are:

Summary

In a 20s-style noir alternate Earth setting, a queer detective, John, begins a kinky relationship with a beautiful radio host, Esther. Unfortunately for both of them, John is a detective assigned to the supernatural division, and she’s a siren, and neither of them know about the other.

As the supernatural element of the city starts to shift into the light, John's job and Esther's reality crash together in ways neither of them would have ever anticipated.

Does anyone remember Runaway Tales over on LJ?

I think about that community a lot. It was adorable. You picked "flavours" of prompt tables, things like chocolate or vanilla or mint, and each table would have a certain theme to it. You'd write short (or long!) pieces using a prompt (or multiple, depending on your toppings) for your original works and post them with "toppings", the toppings would be things like cherries (do something you don't usually do), rainbow sprinkles (write about a minor character) or chopped nuts (AUs and things).

You could also add extras, like malt if you were taking part in a challenge, pocky for ~100 words. I once did a "binge", which was doing the entire prompt table as one piece (which came out at 10k+ words).

I think about that place a lot. It's been dead a while, because of LJ being dead too, and I dunno. I think about making something similar, sometimes. Maybe on Pillowfort or here.

A List of Places You Can Read More or Support Me

I'm in a shitty situation at home (it's toxic and emotionally abusive), so I thought I'd put up a few places you can help out, or get commissions, or generally read more of my work. I'm a queer, chronically ill writer and artist, and honestly I'd just appreciate any support ♥

Basically, I'm a millennial, get me out of here.

Some of this is more mental health support (nice t-shirts on DeliveryCode, leaving comments on AO3 etc), others is more monetary support.

Best Options for Support:

  • AO3 - This one's obvious but I have an Archive Of Our Own account. If you like my work on there, telling people about it, leaving comments and kudos etc, all that really helps!
  • Ko-Fi - If you'd like to throw me a tip in support and thanks for what I'm writing, here's a good place for it. I really appreciate anything I get because, as it says on that sidebar: I am smol and broke. I write fanfic for fun, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to offer this up just in case.
  • Patreon - This is my original work's current home. I write sci-fi, fantasy, and currently I'm writing a polyam romantic drama. You can read more about that there, and my original work is (in future) posted there for $1/post on a creation-based system (aka if I don't work I don't get money). If you can't afford to support me on Patreon, you can recommend my writing to other people, which is one of the best ways to support me without spending a dime. You can also retweet my Patreon adverts etc. Basically, any help getting the word out is amazing. If you can't afford to be a patron, you can also hit follow and watch and interact with my free posts. This would mean the world to me.
  • DeliveryCode - You can send cash gifts, or buy things off my wishlist (once I add things to it.)
  • Itch.io - It's not just games (but I do some Twine games, too, which I'd love to post on here at some point), they also do books. My books and serials will be up here when they're in a final, post-alpha stage.

Secondary Options & General Social Media:
  • Tumblr - I have it. It's not very active.
  • Twitter - Far more active. This is mostly art, rather than writing, but there's a bunch of art on there too. If you see me posting art, please retweet it etc - this is one of the biggest helps you can give without paying money!
  • Pillowfort - I haven't really gotten started on here yet, but it looks good.
  • Mastodon - Again, I'm not really active here, but I'm trying!

Writing Commissions:

Rates
  • Ficlet (~750 words): $3
  • One-shot (~3000 words): $6
  • Multi-chapter (~5 chapters, varying lengths): $25
  • Long-form (5+ chapters or a fic that will be higher than 15k words): Ask me for a quote. It really depends on what you're wanting ♥
Content
  • Anything below an E rating goes by the rates above.
  • If you're requesting smut, add $2 per $3 to the fee (so a smut ficlet would be $5, a smutty oneshot would be $10 and so on).
  • If you want me to write OCs, the price will go up by $2 per $3, the same as smut - and if it's a smutty OC fic, it'll stack (so a smutty OC ficlet would be $7, a smutty OC oneshot would be $14).
What I'd Rather Not Write:
  • Bestiality (werewolves/vampires/merfolk etc/anthro are fine, I'm just not writing beastiality with flat up animals)
Fandoms:
  • Contact me.
I know that sounds weird, but there's a lot of shows or fandoms I'm in that I wouldn't really think to list. If I was listing my fandoms here I'd probably include things I'd already written for, but there's other things I'd be happy to write for (like the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, for instance). I'd much rather you ask and I have to tell you I can't do that, than put down a list of fifteen fandoms when there's a hundred I've forgotten.

That said, if it's a book it's probably not something I can write for unless it's Our Bloody Pearl as I don't read much. However, TV shows, movies etc are all on the list of highly possible.

I'll do Reader x Character fic, too.

I will also write your OCs if that's something you want - however, I'll need a good primer on them, examples of how they talk, things like that. I'll go through all that before any payment is sent, though!

How to Commission:

Multiple options: How You'll Pay:

You can pay using PayPal, or using Ko-Fi (if you don't mind it not being exact (Ko-fi is in increments of $3)), or you can pay via the "Cash Gifts" option on my DeliveryCode page (which works really well when you can't use PayPal!). If you don't have either of these things, we can probably figure something out.

Art Commissions

Coming soon.

Feel free to ask any questions in comments! Anonymous commenting is on, so you don't need a Dreamwidth account for that.

The Tumblr Purge

Like many people now on here, I'm migrating across post-tumblr purge.

I used to use LiveJournal back in the day, before strikethrough and all of that, but I have no memory of how to effectively use a site like Dreamwidth. So that's nice.

Oh well, we'll see what happens.

ETA: My first post on here and I spelled "purge" with an E. What is wrong with me?
